Black & Decker is a recognized household name for its home appliances and tools. If you are a home-owner, odds are you already have at least one of their products. And, why do you have so many of their products already? Because you trust them. For a century, they’ve built a reputation for quality tools and appliances.
Since Black & Decker started with their first patent on a hand-held drill, they have incorporated different tools to simplify your life and bring industrial tools into the home. This is one of their latest in a line of jig saws from their 20v MAX system of tools.
Who is this product for?
The BDCJS20B is for anyone who wants a simple jigsaw. It can handle most home projects and is easy to use. So, if you have casual DIY home projects or a hobbyist this is the best jig saw for you.
What’s included?
This is a “bare tool” model. That means that you only get the cordless power tool and a blade for it. Batteries, or any other power source, are not included in the box. This is working under the presumption that you have other 20v batteries at home.
If, however, you do not, you will not be able to use this out of the box. And, you will need to purchase the batteries separately.
Overview of features
Don’t let this basic jig saw fool you. The BDCJS20B model has everything you need to do basic woodworking. It also has some advanced features if you are feeling more creative.
As mentioned before, it is a cordless jig saw that works on 20v batteries. Unfortunately, this does not come with the jig saw. Not this particular model, anyway.
What it does offer is a decent motor that gives you a maximum 2500 spm. While it is not as powerful as some other jig saws on the market, it is enough for most home projects.
Like many other jig saws on the market, the BDCJS20B also offers tool free blade changing. This frees you up from fiddling with the blades and more time for your projects. You can use either U or T shank blades with the saw.
And, you don’t have to worry about dust flying around with the built-in dust blower. Additionally, it also has a clear line of sight. So, you can see where your blade is on the work piece for better accuracy.
You also have increased control with the speed trigger on the jig saw. Unfortunately, it does not have a dial for setting speeds. You can only control it by the trigger.
Lastly, this jig saw can make angled beveled cuts. But, the bevel shoe only allows for 45 degrees to the left and right. And, you need to use the provided key to loosen the shoe.
Alternatives
If you want a cordless jig saw that comes with a battery pack, you can also go with the Black & Decker BDCJS20C model. It’s basically the same saw but comes with a 20v battery and charger. It’s a little more expensive, of course, because of the extra included power source.
In addition, Porter-Cable also has a similar cordless jig saw. Their PCC650B is another bare tool model. This means that it also does not come with a battery or charger. However, it is nearly the same price as the Black & Decker BDCJS20B.
The features for the Porter-Cable jig saw are near identical. It, too, features 2500 spm capabilities, as well as a tool-less blade changing system, variable speed trigger control, and beveling at 45 degrees.
Conclusion
The BDJS20B from Black & Decker is a great option for the budget-conscious consumer. If you are looking for a jig saw to do light house repairs and weekend projects, this is the best jig saw for the job.
It can handle basic woodwork for your projects. It also can create beveled cuts for more advanced woodworking. You can only control the speed with the trigger, though, so it’s not the best choice for working with different materials.
However, if you only plan on simple woodworking this is the best jig saw at a budget price. While this model doesn’t come with a battery or charger, if you already have tools from this line you won’t need the extras. If you do like this jig saw, but would prefer to have the battery and charger, the BDCJS20C model comes with all of that at a slightly higher price.
